I had talked to a few people and friends in the lawn and garden world of blogging about a Miracle-Gro Lawn food experiment. My plan was to use this product once every two weeks as suggested on the label. I had taken some pictures to hopefully show the progress of my new green lawn.

OK, here’s the deal. I recently finished my MBA program, and have to start paying my student loans bills. Ouch. So in an attempt to re-budget we’re trying to see where we can save money around our household. The lawn and garden portion of our budget is still OK, it’s the utilities section that is mostly effected.

When I started this experiment for lawn food and getting my lawn the greenest it could be, we were having a normal summer. Plenty of rain and fairly moderate temperatures. Then we got a huge dry spell and basically, we just couldn’t afford to water our lawn as much as I would have liked to give this experiment a fair test. So we’re going to try next season. It should be better actually because I can start earlier and get a better result.

OH, and it’s about time to yank out those lawn sweepers!!! I just love these things!

Why I love a lawn sweeper

As a kid, every fall I had to clean the leaves out of the fence between my neighbors and our yard. There were a ton of bushes next to fence and getting all the leaves out was a real chore. I was amazed at home many leaves would collect there through the summer. My dad would suggest that I raked them every now and then so I wouldn’t have so much to clean at the end of the fall. But the idea of raking leaves didn’t sound good either. So I waited and paid the price at the end.

Man I wish I had known about lawn sweepers back then. Keeping the lawn free of debris would have been easy with one of these cool gardening tools (or garden equipment I guess). Even the push lawn sweepers are handy to have around. To find the best lawn sweeper for your lawn and garden needs, check out your local dealer or online for reviews at best lawn sweeper. If you’re the real outdoors man type you can get a tow-behind yard sweeper and pull it behind your ATV or garden tractor.

What is a Lawn Sweeper, choosing the right one

There are many different types of lawn sweepers so the one you choose depends on many different things.

  • How large is your lawn?
  • How much storage space do you have for a yard sweeper when it’s not in use?
  • How much money do you want to spend?
  • What do you intend to pick up with it?
  • Do you have a garden or lawn tractor or ATV?

There is the push yard sweeper which is human powered and requires a person to push the sweeper across the lawn which powers the brushes. There is also the tow behind lawn sweeper that is towed behind some type of vehicle like a garden tractor or ATV.

All lawn sweepers have brushes that spin as the sweeper is moved across the lawn and sweep the lawn debris up into the hopper or hamper. Depending on the type of sweeper you have, the hopper size will vary.

When choosing a lawn sweeper, be sure to take into consideration the bullet points listed above.

Check back for more later… I’m going to try and list some specific models to help you make a decision.
